Control Room Goes Live

Following a concerted effort with our technical partner Gallinet, the new Vigilance Properties Limited control room management resource went live on 23rd July 2012.

What's a control room? In a nutshell, a secure environment manned around the clock using customised IT systems to monitor and record the safety and security of the workforce and assets it protects. Incidents trigger clear emergency procedures instantly, meaning better and safer operations.

The operations department led by Ed Mills conducted an exhaustive assessment of company requirements, and the service providers capable of delivering them on time and to budget. Gallinet won the close fought tender for supplying its PeopleHours system, which is underwritten by the NSI Guarding Gold Standard.

Prior to the company-wide implementation, extensive planning and testing was needed, and the operations department made several visits to Gallinet headquarters to meet managing director Marcus Kerr and his team of controllers and technical staff. Any potential compatability or communications barriers were considered and overcome during this phase.

Personnel manager Som Chochangi and services manager Adam Ball had hands on training within the Gallinet control room, as well as devoting many hours to establishing an accurate system and a meticulously briefed workforce able to take full advantage of this powerful new tool.

A little over 24 hours after the system first went live all the hard work paid off, and Adam Ball was able to report a full set of green lights meaning every member of the workforce was present and correct, making their check call to the controllers on time and correctly.

The health and safety is a vital aspect of our day-to-day management tool. With this system, lone worker confidence to operate is improved, escalation procedures are balanced, and 24 hours a day back up and support are standard to all caretakers. And of course, most important an even more reliable and accountable service is delivered to our invaluable clients by the professional management team.
