This Thursday directors of Vigilance past and present were honoured to attend a Battle of Waterloo reception at the Belgian Ambassadors residence on Belgrave Square in support of the Household Division.
HE the Ambassador of Belgium and Lt Col Simon Soskin, the Brigade Major, showed immaculate hospitality and gave a charismatic Waterloo themed presentation to supporters of the Household Division at the official residence on Belgrave Square.
Chris Hartley, Ed Mills and Seb MacKenzie-Wilson together learned how the Regiments of the Household Division were contributing to national activities both at home and abroad in 2015, and what was planned for the coming ceremonial season coinciding with the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
In his welcoming address HE Guy Trouveroy spoke of particular pride in commemorating the bicentennial of Waterloo alongside his Household Division counterparts. Guests were reminded that Waterloo was a great turning point in European history, and one in which the Household Division Regiments confirmed their elite reputation alongside European coalition partners.
Guests were acquainted with the cultural programme in Belgium associated with this commemorative year and the Ambassador eloquently drew parrallels to today's collaborative approach in facing common international threats, while reflecting on the lessons to be learned from shared European history, heritage and culture.
Further common interests were shared and abundantly in evidence throughout the evening, as guests were treated to the very best of commemoratively brewed Belgian beer and an outstanding buffet meal.
Vigilance looks forward to continuing its very active support of the Household Division for many years to come, and thanks its hosts for a most gracious and entertaining evening.
