In keeping with annual tradition Vigilance staff took to the Victoria station concourse on 3rd November to meet the public, raise awareness of the work of the Royal British Legion, and fundraise for London Poppy Day.
London Poppy Day is a one-day annual event in support of the Royal British Legion that sees nearly 2,000 collectors with Armed Forces affiliations hitting the streets of London to target over £1 million of fundraising, making it the largest street collection of its kind in the UK.
Total funds raised for the 2016 devent that takes place at key locations all across London hit £800,000, while the valiant Victoria Station team raised a whopping £35,714. In keeping with all good Armed Forces traditions there is a competitive edge to the fundraising targets of individual stations. This year marked a great achievement from the Victoria Station team and its numerous Vigilance contributors in coming third across all London fundraising venues.
Victoria LPD station commander and former Vigilance director Christopher Hartley commented, "Thank you so much to Vigilance for its ongoing and longstanding support for London Poppy Day; Victoria Train Station couldn’t have done it without you!
"Across London over £800,000 was raised, with our efforts at Victoria contributing substantially to the London total - a fantastic effort, so thank you all so much."
