Two Vigilance teams completed the gruelling 100 kilometre challenge of Trailwalker 2015 in the early hours of Sunday 26th July.
Vigilance Chiuribote Academicals crossed the line in 79th place with a time of 19.30 while their comrades in Vigilance Doko Breaking My Heart finished just outside the top hundred in 103rd place in a time of 22.20.
In total 417 teams pitted themselves against the rigours of the South Downs course with 206 teams, less than half of those entered, meeting the challenge of getting all four team members over the finish line.
For the third year Vigilance participated in support of its long term charity partner the Gurkha Welfare Trust, and event sponsor Oxfam. Taking part in Trailwalker was a significant target for Vigilance's annual CSR agenda, and donations towards Vigilance's chosen Chiuribote school building project now total £16,500.
In 2015 Trailwalker had a particularly bitter sweet poignancy given the ongoing joy of the Gurkha 200 celebrations marking the bicentennary of the Brigade of Gurkhas, against the simultaneous pain felt by the people of Nepal following the destructive earthquake that hit the country in April.
Reconstruction and goodwill were much in evidence during Trailwalker, while personal and company friendships were cemented over the course of the day. Particular thanks for the generous and wholehearted participation of Vigilance friends and family, corporate partner Veritas Management for its supply of both participants and support crew, and the active participation of serving Royal Gurkha Engineers, and Royal Engineer officers.
Hearty congratulations go to all concerned for a valiant and concerted team effort. Outstanding work!
